Transport Support
To be used either towards a train season ticket or fuel costs. Officers choosing the season ticket option will receive reimbursement of up to £1200 on production of a receipt for an annual ticket and those choosing the fuel option will receive personal-issue fuel cards, worth £100 per month. Officer are also entitled to free bus travel.
Mortgage and Rental Scheme
Housing is a great burden, and arrangements have been made for a shared ownership scheme and preferential mortgage/rental deals, available to police oficers and police staff.
Pensions
The benefits offered by the Local Government Pension Scheme are comprehensive and are set out in considerable detail in our (Surrey County Council) Employees' Guide. Employees are provided with a copy of this booklet and are strongly advised to read it carefully. Staff contribute six per cent of their salary - upon retirement you will receive a yearly pension and tax-free lump sum retirement grant. These are calculated on the following basis: yearly pension is 1/80th x average pensionable pay x period of membership. Retirement grant is 3/80th x average pensionable pay x period of membership.
Career Development
Surrey Police is committed to realising the potential of all members of staff. Developing and investing in people is central to achieving the Force's aims. A formal appraisal system is in place to facilitate development. Our training strategy is as follows:
- Encourage an environment where the training and development of Staff is focused at the workplace;
- Encourage individuals to take responsibility for their own self-development;
- Ensuring managers perform a coaching and mentoring role;
Motor Insurance
Worth £250 per year, this will be reimbursed via the expenses process on production of a receipt for an annual policy.
Flexible Working
Police Officers - The standard working week comprises 40 hours, with an option to discuss flexibility and possible part-time working opportunities. Our current shift pattern covers a five-week rota offering a total of 12 rest days.
Police Staff - The standard working week is 36 hours and you will agree with your manager before appointment the specific start and finish times. Surrey Police has introduced a scheme for staff (excluding those on shift arrangements) whereby employees can reduce the work schedule but still work the same total number of hours per week (36 hours) in a two week period (resulting in a full day off per fortnight). Posts may be subject to local variations, while others involve shift-work spread over a seven-day period.
Childcare Vouchers
In conjunction with Busy Bees Childcare Ltd, we have introduced a scheme whereby part of your salary can be exchanged for childcare vouchers. These vouchers are exempt for National Insurance contributions and therefore represent a saving for Surrey Police and you.
Maternity & Paternity
Police Staff - Workers are entitled to 14 weeks paid leave at full pay (subject to service requirement).
Police Officers - Workers are entitled to a maximum of 15 months leave (no service requirement).
Paternity leave - Workers are entitled to one week at full pay.
Adoption leave - Workers are entitled to the same as maternity leave for police staff.
Property Insurance
Worth £100 per year, this will be reimbursed via the expenses process on production of a receipt for an annual policy.
Holiday
Police Officers - Flexibility is attached to periods of annual leave, such as for school holidays.
Police Staff - Employees are entitled to 25 days' annual leave, increasing to 29 days after five years' service. Part-time entitlement is pro-rata.
Healthcare
"Premier Health", Surrey Police´s healthcare programme, is available to all permanent employees without subscription. This offers a comprehensive package of services, including access to private consultation and treatment where appropriate, plus a range of preventative healthcare measures.
Career Breaks
Employees with 5 years service may apply for a career break between one and five years to enable them to carry out caring responsibilities or further personal development. Surrey Police is committed to enabling and supporting individuals requesting to work on a reduced hours basis, either working part-time or on a job share basis.
Smoking Policy
Surrey Police is committed to providing a healthy, smoke-free working environment for all its employees. To this end, a policy banning smoking from all offices and other areas of police premises has been introduced. However, if possible, a smoking area may be provided.
Sports & Social Facilities
The Sports Association encourages and promotes all forms of sport amongst its members. At the present time there are active sections for a range of sporting activities. A small monthly subscription for membership is charged. A lottery is also run, with the aim of raising funds to actively support sports and social activities.



A wide range of professional support and advice is provided to our employees on health, welfare and related matters. The Force's sick pay scheme provides generous entitlements to full and half pay, depending on length of service and period of absence.
Surrey Police provide restaurant facilities at a subsidised price (at various locations), which offer a range of meals at various times of the day.
